The 2026 World Cup will transform North America into the largest football celebration ever organized. A record number of 48 national teams will play 104 matches in 16 host cities across the United States, Canada, and Mexico over 39 days.
The match distribution includes 78 matches in the United States, 13 in Mexico, and 13 in Canada. Eleven American cities, three Mexican cities, and two Canadian cities – from Los Angeles to Toronto, Monterrey to Seattle – will host the matches. Key stadiums include AT&T Stadium, SoFi Stadium, NRG Stadium, Mercedes-Benz Stadium, BC Place, BMO Field, Estadio BBVA, Estadio Akron, and, of course, the iconic Estadio Azteca.
Team Form Before the World Cup
Argentina arrives as the defending champion, with a well-established core and the fresh memory of their 2022 triumph. France, Brazil, and England are also among the top favorites, boasting star-studded rosters experienced in direct elimination phases. Spain and Germany, as well as rising nations like Japan or the United States, aim to disrupt the traditional hierarchy of football giants.

Opening Match (June 11): The tournament kicks off with a clash between Mexico and South Africa on Thursday, June 11, at Estadio Azteca.

Group Stage (June 11–27): 12 groups of 4 teams, featuring premier fixtures such as Brazil–Morocco, France–Senegal, or England–Croatia.

Round of 32 (June 28–July 3): The top two from each group plus the eight best third-placed teams compete in knockout stages across different host cities continent-wide.

Round of 16 (July 5–8): The remaining teams battle for qualification in sudden-death matches where any mistake could spell doom for even the biggest favorites.

Quarterfinals (July 9–12): Only eight nations remain, and every matchup feels like a final, played in some of the largest stadiums in the United States.
